Workshop 2019/Aug-19: Spanish Web with Trevor Kafka $55 per classPurchase required to enroll

Attend this workshop to receive a comprehensive introduction to the unique apparatus of Spanish Web. Spanish Web is an apparatus consisting of a vertical rope with a loop attached high up on it. The Spanish Web performer then climbs the rope and places their hand or foot into the loop and tightens down a leather safety to keep the loop secure. A second person (typically referred to as the "setter") holds onto the bottom of the rope from the floor and begins to twirl the rope in a circle, causing the performer to spin while hanging from the loop. The performer is then able to create a variety of shapes while hanging from the loop by either their hand or foot and the setter is able to control the speed of the performer. Speeds in Spanish Web can vary from a gentle twirl to a very fast spin causing the performer to be pulled completely horizontally. Participants in this workshop will learn to both set and fly Spanish web through a rotation. You do not need to come with a partner in order to participate in this workshop. Prerequisites: ability to climb up a rope to the top without assistance multiple times in an hour; tolerance for spinning--we will be spinning a LOT during the entire two hours in this class!
